Detail Request Form

The Babson College Department of Public Safety has developed a policy to determine when or whether a Public Safety Detail Officer is necessary, required, or recommended for campus programs, events, and activities.

There are several factors that may be considered in making these determinations while prioritizing the health and safety of our communities and it is expected all community members keep these considerations in mind while planning events and activities for Babson College. These factors include but are not limited to:

Events and Activities

  • Event Information
    • Number of expected attendees
    • Crowd Control Management Requirements
    • Local neighborhood expectations
  • Location and timing of the event
  • Fire Safety, Egress, and Emergency Management considerations
  • State or Local compliance requirements/recommendations
  • Nature of the event and activities
    • Non-Babson attendees
    • Alcohol service (see college policy below with recommend verbiage change)
    • Higher risk activities taking place

Motor Vehicle Traffic and Pedestrian Safety

  • Nature of construction projects
  • Additional activities taking place on campus or area
  • Location of work and site lines
  • Pedestrian and vehicle traffic volume
  • Lighting and Weather conditions
  • Other hazards that can be anticipated
  • State or Local compliance requirements/recommendations

Executive, VIP, or Dignitary Protection

Executive Protection requests must be submitted to Lt. Jenna Lazar.

Alcohol Service

If alcohol is being served at your event, please review the Alcohol and Catering Policy. Training and Intervention Procedures for Servers of Alcohol (TIPS) will be on site for all events where alcohol is served. TIPS is provided by Chartwells for all events on campus where alcohol is served. Chartwells will also train and/or hire students to be TIPS certified at student events on campus (e.g., Knight parties, Buffoonery). The Babson Public Safety Department will assess information regarding the details of the event and will determine if Public Safety presence is needed. Please visit Public Safety’s webpage to determine your events requirements and/or request a Public Safety detail.

Crowd Control Manager and/or Fire Detail

Please be advised Massachusetts State Law requires a designated person to be certified and act as a Crowd Control Manager for any event that has the following:

  1. With an occupant load of 100 persons or more. Occupant loads of 500 persons or more will require a Fire Detail.
  2. And who are a: “Nightclub, dance, hall, discotheque or bar,” or who feature entertainment by a live band or recorded music generating above normal sound levels, and have a specific area designated for dancing must have trained Crowd Managers in the licensed premises at all times that they are open to patrons.

This means if your event qualifies as outlined above, an additional detail request must be made specifying the duty of a Crowd Control Manager.

Request Timing

  • The detail officer request form must be completed in full for all requests for a Babson Police detail officer.
  • Your request must be received TEN (10) days prior to your scheduled event.
