Emergency & Short-Term Financial Support

Emergency & short-term financial supports are intended for Babson undergraduate and graduate students seeking financial assistance for academic and personal success.

Opportunities and potential funding range across various financial assistance programs, including emergency aid, basic needs, academic success, and personal or professional support. If financial barriers are making it difficult to achieve your goals, we encourage you to apply.

About

The Emergency & Short-Term Financial Support Application serves as a single-entry point to several financial funding resources available to Babson students. Rather than navigating multiple forms and eligibility requirements, students can complete a single application and be considered for a variety of funding opportunities that best align with their needs. Support for students comes from a variety of funds, each established to address different types of student needs and carrying its own legacy. This includes:

Provides emergency grants to students facing unexpected and compelling circumstances that may jeopardize their ability to successfully continue at Babson. Support can address emergency medical expenses, essential belongings lost through fire or theft, emergency travel, safety needs, and other critical circumstances.

Built around the spirit of “paying it forward,” this fund supports individuals committed to improving the wellbeing of others throughout the Babson community. Funding helps turn acts of care and support—big or small—into meaningful assistance for others.

Helps parents of undergraduate students with financial need to travel to Boston for important milestones in their student’s college experience, including Family Weekend and Commencement. Support may help with hotels, flights, trains, and other transportation expenses.

How to Apply

To be considered eligible for financial funding, the applicant must:

  • Be currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, or an Alumni (limited funding)
  • Demonstrate financial need or hardship (e.g., emergency situation, unanticipated, and/or other compelling circumstances that might jeopardize the student’s ability to be successful or participate in a range of areas relating to educational and/or professional pursuits)
  • Consider and utilize other sources of funding as appropriate, such as recommended loans, scholarships, grants, etc. unless not available in a sufficiently timely manner

To request funding, complete the application below. A committee will review each request and notify the student of the funding decision and next steps. Students are encouraged to submit applications on their own. A faculty or staff member may complete this form on behalf of the student as long as the student has consented to the request being submitted and may not be able to reasonably do so on their own.

If you have questions or concerns about the application, please email needs@babson.edu. A member of our team will follow up with you to discuss next steps and answer any questions you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Babson students who are experiencing a hardship or unexpected financial challenge may be eligible to apply. Every situation is reviewed individually, and eligibility may vary depending on the specific funding source and the nature of the request.

Financial funding is generally intended to assist where hardship or unexpected expenses create a barrier to a student’s health, well-being, or academic experience.

Examples may include:

  • Unexpected medical or health-related expenses
  • Essential course materials & academic supplies
  • Access to basic needs like food, clothing, hygiene, etc.
  • Transportation costs related to an emergency or relocation
  • Housing stability and relocation
  • Other personal and professional development

Award amount varies based on the circumstances of the request, available funding, and the specific fund being considered. Most awards typically range from $100 to $1,000 depending on the need. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.

Students can apply more than once if they experience a new or separate financial hardship. Each request is reviewed individually based on current circumstances, available funding, and eligibility requirements. Previous funding does not disqualify a student, though prior funding will be taken into account during consideration. Due to increasing numbers of requests each year, it is important we try to serve as many students as possible.
