Need-Based Grants and Scholarships

Babson Grants and Scholarships

  • Value: Award amount is based on each student's financial need, as determined by a standard need-analysis methodology. Award amount is committed for four years, provided there are no major changes in the family's financial circumstances or the student's enrollment status.
  • Criteria: Need-based
  • Notes: We will re-evaluate the Babson Grant amount after the first year only if there is a major change in the family’s circumstances, including a change in the number of the student's siblings in undergraduate college. Students who receive the Babson Grant are eligible for a Merit Step of $1,500 in each year after a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better is achieved.
  • Apply: Awards are based on financial aid application

Four-Year Examples of the Babson Grant

Babson commits to the Babson Grant amount for four years, provided that there are no major changes to the family’s financial circumstances or the student's enrollment status.

The circumstances that would trigger a re-evaluation of your grant level for the next year are:

  • a 20% or greater change in parents’ total annual income from one year to the next
  • a change in the number of dependent children attending college
  • a change in the student’s residence status—from living on campus to commuting from home, or vice versa
  • a change in the student's enrollment status

Assuming the family experiences no major change, the same Babson Grant amount will be awarded each year. The following example shows how a student with no major changes in circumstances receives the same Babson Grant each year.

Federal and State Grants

Student Financial Services will determine your eligibility for federal and state grants based on the information you provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduates with the greatest financial need
  • If your tentative award letter includes a Federal Pell Grant, the amount is an estimate that will be finalized once we receive your FAFSA and verification documents. The award amount is subject to change each year depending on your financial need and federal funding availability
  • Find more information about Federal Pell Grants
  • The Federal SEOG is awarded to undergraduates with the greatest financial need
  • Of the award amount, 75% is paid by the federal government and 25% is paid by Babson
  • For Massachusetts residents, the Mass Grant is awarded to students with the greatest financial need
  • Babson receives Gilbert Grant monies from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to award to Massachusetts residents who have the greatest financial need
  • Students from other states may be eligible for state grants that can be used in Massachusetts. Arrangements currently exist between Massachusetts and CT, DC, MD, NH, NJ, PA, RI and VT
