First-Generation Student Success Office

Office of First-Generation Student Success

The Office of First-Generation Student Success offers support for those first-in-their-families to attend higher education while providing guidance and tools for the entire Babson community that assist in the office’s mission.

We strive to offer resources and a community in which first-generation students and the Babson community can grow and flourish. In collaboration with other Babson College offices and faculty, we envision a campus where all students will thrive in and outside of the classroom.  We encourage all members of the Babson community to celebrate inclusive excellence and belonging and to help drive our campus-wide mission.

Roughly 20 percent of the Babson student population identifies as first generation. First-generation students are students whose parents (adoptive or biological) or legal guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree (whether in the U.S. or abroad).

Our Office’s Mission and Values

First-Generation Sign

The Office of First-Generation Student Success leads a strategic vision for those first-in-their-families to attend higher education to thrive. We do so through intentional community-building, equitable access, and a strengths-based mindset.

In collaboration with other College offices and faculty, we envision a campus where all students will succeed in and outside of the classroom regardless of their economic status, identity, or family of origin. Babson College will be an institution where students and their families feel proud of their first-generation identities and see “first-gen” as a strength in becoming responsible economic and social stewards, while all Babson students and families can play a part in this wider mission.

Supporting those first-in their families to thrive at Babson does not happen in a silo. In partnership with students, faculty, and staff from all areas of campus, we work to build sustainable and engaging relationships with the focus of lifting up the experiences and voices of our first-gen community members.

Through collaboration, an entrepreneurial mindset, and expansive thinking, we address campus challenges and propose unique solutions to ensure equitable access and success.

We empower first-generation students and the entire Babson community to thrive, celebrating their achievements and fostering growth, resilience, and lifelong success.

First-gen students bring a wide array of backgrounds and experiences to the Babson community. Guided by our mission and values, we build community and belonging under the umbrella of “First-Gen,” fostering an environment of inclusive excellence and belonging for all students.
