Get Involved

Babson College provides many ways to directly engage in building community and capacity for first-generation and limited-income students.

The Office of First-Generation Student Success advises 3 student-led organizations that share resources, engage in social connection, and promote student voice around the first-generation experience or those who come from limited-income families. Check out our organizations below to get connected!

Semillas Society Student Organization Logo

Semillas Society

The mission of Semillias Society has always revolved around creating a supportive network amongst first-gen college students. Whether it is through our carefully crafted mentorship program, hosting speaker events with first-gen entrepreneurs and alumni, or through sharing an abundant amount of career resources and workshops for our peers to help navigate through their first college rodeo. Our role as members of Semillias Society is to create a supportive first-gen community and expand our reach.

Tri-Alpha Honor Society

Tri-Alpha, formally known as Alpha Alpha Alpha, is a national honor society for first-generation college students. It recognizes academic excellence and offers opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and service for these students.

First-generation students (those whose parents did not complete a bachelor's degree) who maintain a 3.2 GPA or higher and have completed 30 credits are generally eligible for induction. Membership provides recognition, networking opportunities with other first-generation students, and the opportunity to showcase superior academic ability and commitment.
Free Lunch Club Student Organization Logo

Free Lunch Club

The "Free Lunch Club" is intended for Babson limited-income students looking for a space to discuss and build resources on navigating college and professional life. The name is a nod to the free and reduced school lunch program in American public schools for limited-income families. By embracing the name, we build confidence and pride in our backgrounds and the positive traits these experiences have built in us.

While the name is of a specific experience, we welcome anyone who views themselves as limited-income and would like to engage in community and learning, including international students. We hope the programming will be dynamic and meet the interest and schedules of all students, not just lunch-time.

Apply to be a First-Gen Fellow!

First-Gen Fellows are volunteers within the Office of First-Generation Student Success. These are folks in their early years at Babson or just want to engage more in the first-gen community. Fellows will be paired with OFGSS staff or interns to support academic, social, or professional, or other programming and resource building.

There is no minimum or max amount of hours a Fellow can serve, nor a set schedule. Fellows will be asked to assist as needed. Fellows will also have higher consideration for future intern hiring processes.
