CAROLYN HOTCHKISS NAMED DEAN OF FACULTY AT BABSON
Professor Carolyn Hotchkiss has been named Dean of Faculty at Babson College.
Hotchkiss joined the Babson faculty in January 1986. She has taught core Business Law and Ethics courses as well as elective courses in Intellectual Property Law, International Business Law, and Public International Law in Babson’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
Hotchkiss has written extensively in the areas of international law and the impact of new technologies on law and business, including articles on international commercial law, corruption in international business, and global intellectual property issues, especially those involving digital technologies. She is the author of International Law for Business, and has been a contributing author to several textbooks on Business Law.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College and J.D. from Columbia Law School. Hotchkiss, known for her effective and creative teaching, was awarded the Charles M. Hewitt award for teaching excellence by the Academy of Legal Studies in Business in 2000. In 2005, she received the Deans’ Award for Excellence in Teaching at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College.
Prior to Babson, Professor Hotchkiss practiced law in New York, with the firm of Webster & Sheffield, was in-house counsel to Pratt Institute and Mount Holyoke College, and taught at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Western New England College of Law. She has been a Visiting Professor at the Harvard Business School and at Wellesley College. She is a member of the Bar in New York and Massachusetts, and active in a variety of professional associations.
“Carolyn is a dedicated faculty member who has served the College well both in and out of the classroom,” according to Babson Provost Shahid Ansari. “She understands the faculty, loves being one, is scrupulously fair, open to alternate viewpoints, and most of all loves the College and will always do right by it.”
“These things alone would have been good enough for me,” continued Ansari, “but in addition Carolyn brings a great sense of humor and a refreshing candor. She will be a great addition to the College’s leadership team.”
