TEDx at Babson College: An Example of Entrepreneurial Leadership

TEDxBabsonCollege 2024

Sailing the Storm
“A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
– John A. Shedd

Babson College has proudly hosted TEDx events since 2017, bringing new insights and ideas to the Wellesley, Massachusetts campus. The event continues to be a student favorite and unique in the sense that it is completely student run.

So not only is this an opportunity to be inspired, it’s also one that puts both undergraduate and graduate students into entrepreneurial leadership positions with some real-world stakes involved.

How This Started

Aniketh Rao MSEL’17 was a student in the 2016-2017 Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Leadership program and had a passion for TED Talks and made it his mission to bring them to Babson. Tamara Lamenzo was a staff member working at Babson Executive Education who shared a passion for TED Talks, and also believed that Babson was the perfect place for them.

A chance meeting between the both of them in December 2016 led to Aniketh applying for a TEDx license and the rest is history. Though Aniketh has since graduated, Tamara continues the tradition as an advisor to the student-led event.

What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBabsonCollege, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBabsonCollege event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.
