Babson College recognizes that today’s most successful entrepreneurs are those who pursue both economic and social value—who create not only wealth, but also a wealth of opportunities for others.

John Mackey, named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the year in 2003, has created a business model with objectives that extend beyond the bottom line, recognizing that when business operates with higher purpose beyond profits, it creates value for all involved.

John Mackey, Co-CEO & Co-founder of Whole Foods, will come to Babson College to discuss his latest book, Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business on Thursday, February 7. The event will be held from 4:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. in Babson’s Carling-Sorenson Theater and will feature both a talk and book-signing with John Mackey and his co-author, Raj Sisodia, Chairman and Co-founder of the Conscious Capitalism Institute.

As a multitude of scandals and questionable actions by major companies continue to surface, the notion of capitalism has become increasingly villainized as the black sheep of economic models. In their new book, John Mackey and Rajendra Sisodia, argue that there is in fact, inherent good in capitalism and further, if participants use a higher consciousness, its inherent power can be renewed to improve both the lives of people and the long-term success of companies.

Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business challenges how we think about capitalism and demonstrates to aspiring leaders in any industry how they can create fully human, caring businesses that win for all instead of at the expense of others.

In addition to the book reading and signing, the event will also showcase four conscious capitalist Babson food entrepreneurs and YouthTrade, an organization committed to increasing youth entrepreneurship. YouthTrade looks to create conscious capitalism through connecting mission-driven youth entrepreneurs, responsible big business(es), and ethical consumers.

The featured Babson entrepreneurs and their ventures will be:

• Sara Gragnolati, Cocomama (gluten-free, quinoa-based cereals),

• Cameron Sheldrake, Off the Cob (sweet corn tortilla chips),

• Miles Masci, Perfect Fuel Chocolate (healthy dark chocolate) and

• Rob Dalton, 88 acres (nut-free, organic snack bars).

This event will be free and open to the public. To register, or find out more information please visit:
