    Register Full Details

How do we make independence and freedom of mobility accessible to all, allowing people with reduced mobility to move long distances freely?"We want to overcome the failures of infrastructure and public transport that are not suitable for people with reduced mobility and which prevent them from moving freely and independently to go to work, study, and be included in society." - Khadija JallouiliJoin the conversation on Zoom(Meeting details will be provided in the registration confirmation email.)Join our conversation with Khadija Jallouili, founder and CEO of HawKar, a socially innovative Tunisian startup. As a person with disabilities, Khadija had always struggled to be independent. She saw an opportunity to help solve the problems of public transportation and infrastructure in the Middle East / North African region, which are often not suitable for people with disabilities.HawKar is building a smart electric car that is directly accessible in a wheelchair, compact, economical, and environmentally friendly. This will enable people with reduced mobility to travel independently, whether to work, study, shop, or socialize.Their aim isn't to make a car fully autonomous but to develop a car with a simple assisted driving system because HawKar believes it is important for a person with reduced mobility to have control, feel independent, and be able to have a glimpse of an autonomous life experience by driving their own vehicle. Read this MB100 interview with Khadija.About Meaningful Business 100For this Uncommon Table series, were thrilled to partner with Meaningful Business a curated global network of values-based leaders who are combining purpose and profit to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Well talk to Meaningful Business 100 (MB100) leaders across every industry, role, and company size about how theyre achieving sustainable, positive impact. How do you start and expand a sustainable social business? And how can you truly transform societal structures to be more inclusive?"To hear again means to transform dreams into sounds, which translates into more education and work opportunities." - Howard WeinsteinJoin the conversation on Zoom(Meeting details will be provided in the registration confirmation email.)Today, less than 3% of the people who need a hearing aid can afford one or have access to hearing testing and services. But if you can get a child a hearing aid before the age of three, she can learn to hear and develop speech and therefore have the opportunity to attend a public school, since there are few schools for the deaf, especially in developing countries.Join our conversation with Howard Weinstein, who co-founded Solar Ear with 10 people who are deaf. Their goal is to democratize the hearing aid industry, starting with creating affordable solar-powered hearing aids.Through their hearing aids, Solar Ear has enabled over 20,000 children to learn to communicate and therefore the ability to go to a public school. They have saved over 2 million batteries from being thrown out. And they have created 50+ meaningful jobs for people who are deaf and have had 100+ people with a disability hired by other companies as part of their education and inclusion technical training program.Howard Weinstein has also helped start sustainable social businesses with Palestinean refugees, youths in a favela in Brazil, women with HIV-AIDS, and other under-represented members of society. While he has had both some successes as well as some "spectacular failures," he has won several Technology, Health Innovation Awards, the AAA Humanitarian Award, and was named Global Social Entrepreneur of the Year by WTN.Read this MB100 interview with Howard.About Meaningful Business 100For this Uncommon Table series, were thrilled to partner with Meaningful Business a curated global network of values-based leaders who are combining purpose and profit to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Well talk to Meaningful Business 100 (MB100) leaders across every industry, role, and company size about how theyre achieving sustainable, positive impact. Community Table: Private-Nonprofit Models for Change

    Register Full Details

How can we better scale a social mission, like nutrition insecurity, through private-nonprofit partnership models? How can we better scale a social mission through private-nonprofit partnership models? How can we tap into large markets while addressing pressing problems like nutrition insecurity?Join our conversation on Zoom(Meeting details will be provided in the registration confirmation email.)Join our conversation with Michel Nischan, a four-time James Beard Award-winning chef and dedicated advocate for building a healthier, more sustainable food system.Along with his former business partner, the late actor Paul Newman, Michel founded Wholesome Wave a nonprofit helping to end food insecurity by providing affordable access to fruits and vegetables for low-income Americans. The nonprofit partners with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), deploying seed funding and co-designing program approaches that work best for their specific community.Rather than relying on philanthropy, grants, or government assistance for the nonprofit sector, Michel launched his commercial food company, Wholesome Crave. This for-profit entity sells responsibly sourced, plant-based soups into the marketplace (whether direct-to-consumer or large-employer facilities like Google). That sends profit dollars into Wholesome Wave, which should help solve the problem of nutrition insecurity at a larger scale. As Nischan told Food & Wine, I believe that the combination of Wholesome Crave and Wholesome Wave will together achieve our goal of good food for all, regardless of income."Moderating this conversation is Louisa Kasdon, founder and CEO of Lets Talk About Food, a Boston-based organization that creates events to engage the public in conversation around our food system. Louisa believes that talking about food leads to action about food. And we couldnt agree with her more.Listen to Louisa's podcast with Michel Nischan, where he talks about food, fairness, and the future.About Community TableWhile Community Table is an opportunity for eaters and entrepreneurs to connect, share, and learn. While currently virtual, the design remains simple: the collective at the "table" drives the conversation. Come make valuable connections, give and take resources, meet food professionals of all kinds, and cook up some great ideas. Find out more >>
