After George Floyd: Historical Literacy, Solidarity, and Active Allyship for a New World

    Register Full Details

Facilitated by Elizabeth Swanson and Jane Edmonds, this 4-week non-credit bearing course examines how and why the killing of George Floyd in particular has unleashed a new movement for racial justice. Regardless of your identity, 'After George Floyd' will increase your fluency in the historical origins and repetitions of racism as a foundation for more advanced goals of recognizing implicit bias and building solidarity and active allyship across difference. We invite the Babson alumni community to face with us, with open minds, ears, and hearts, the revelations of this post-pandemic, post-George Floyd moment as hard evidence of the hard truth that racism and violence are central to-not an aberration from-the US national narrative. This course supports participants in exploring solidarity and active allyship as critical tools for dismantling systems of racism and building systems of equity and justice-in our communities, our organizations, and our shared world.Course Information:This is a non-credit bearing, lifelong learning opportunity for our alumni community. The course will be hosted on Babson's Canvas platform, with a $5 enrollment fee that will directly support Babson's Diversity & Inclusion fund. The course is designed for asynchronous, self-paced learning and reflection, with content separated out by weekly modules. Participants should plan to commit 4-6 hours per week. The duration of the course is four weeks, with an opportunity to join a live discussion session during the last week of the course.Elizabeth Swanson, Mandell Family Senior Term Chair in Literature and Human Rights Jane Edmonds, Vice President, Programming and Community OutreachInstructions on creating a Canvas account and the link to join the course will be sent in a confirmation email to registrants on Friday, October 9th. Altered States

    Full Details

We are living through a moment of great change right now: the social, political, and national states are being altered all around us; our personal, mental, and emotional states are being altered within us. Altered States takes on this moment of transformative potential and offers a curated series of digitally presented, 21st-century monologues to demonstrate the complexity, creativity, and resilience of the human spirit when faced with extraordinary challenges. Both individually and together, these works deepen and enrich the ways we might think about change as we work our way through the altered states we live in right now. Premiere performance will be streamed on Sunday, November 1 at 7:00 P.M. only as part of the premiere. Six additional performances will be available for viewing from November 2-7. Registration is required and free, but there are a limited number of reservations. Viewing tickets are only good for the registered performance day but can be used anytime between 10:00a-midnight on that day. The link and password for each performance will be provided on the reserved performance date so an email is required with registration.
