Fireside Chat with Bill Cummings: Moderated by Lecturer Paul Griesmer

Bill Cummings, real estate mogul, never aspired to be a billionaire and never acknowledged he was one until long after it happened. That's because it is not money that motivates him, but rather the immense enjoyment he gets from building and growing successful businesses. Bill Cummings will sit down with Lecturer Paul Griesmer to offer keen insights, cautionary observations, and the pioneering thinking that produced great prosperity and a multibillion-dollar enterprise.

4/12/18 Conscious Capitalism Distinguished Speaker Series: Ron Shaich, Founder & Chairman, Panera Bread

After decades building Panera Bread into the most successful fast-casual restaurant chain in the
industry, Ron Shaich shocked many when he announced that he was taking the company
private in July 2017. In this important talk, Ron will explain why he took this step, and
what we must do to counteract the extremely damaging short-termism and narrow agendas
that now permeate our capital markets. Light refreshments will be served.

Can Financial Engineering Cure Cancer?

Well-respected MIT professor Andrew Lo, is the Charles E. and Susan T Harris Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and Chief Investment Strategist for AlphaSimplex, a Cambridge-based hedge fund. Among his many accomplishments, Professor Lo was named to Time Magazine's list of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Funding for biomedical innovation has been declining despite the fact that medical breakthroughs are occurring at faster rates. One reason for this contradiction is scientific knowledge can actually lead to greater economic risk for investors. In this presentation, Professor Lo will describe how financial engineering can be used to reduce the risk and increase the attractiveness of biomedical innovation so as to bring new therapies to patients faster. Time will be allotted for audience Q&A. This is a free event and walk-ins are welcome!
