Commencement Checklist

Need-to-Know Info for your In-Person Experience

Pre-Commencement

Cap and Gown (Regalia)

The deadline for ordering regalia has passed. Please arrive to your in-person experience in your regalia. If you do not have regalia, please arrive promptly to your assigned check-in time so that you can be assisted. If you have concerns regarding regalia, please email the Events Management Office.

Photo Submissions

The deadline for Commencement photos has passed and we are no longer able to accept submissions. If you have concerns regarding photos, please email the Events Management Office.

Testing

All graduates MUST be pre-registered for in-person Commencement events, and MUST complete the following testing requirements. Graduates who do not complete these testing requirements will not be allowed to participate. There will be no exceptions. 

Testing requirements apply to all attendees, even those who have been fully vaccinated.

Continue on your regular testing cadence and schedule an additional test for Thursday, April 29 (unless already scheduled to test that day). This may mean that you test three times during the week leading up to Commencement. All testing must take place on April 29 in order for results to be available before in-person Commencement check in and events.

Students must complete one of the following three options to be in compliance with Babson’s Commencement testing protocols:

Schedule and complete a test on Babson’s campus on Thursday, April 29.

  • Testing takes place in the Webster Center. Please use the 2nd floor entrance by the parking lot.
  • Please bring a completed Student Testing Consent Form (pdf).
  • Babson tests MUST be completed on April 29.
  • Masks and appropriate physical distance are required on Babson’s campus, including the testing center.

Upload a negative result from an off campus PCR test by Noon on Friday, April 30.

  • Tests must be completed in the 72 hours prior to the Noon deadline on April 30.
  • Full time students, upload your PCR test to: babson.medicatconnect.com.
  • Part time students, email documentation to healthservices@babson.edu with the subject line “Grad/UGrad In-Person Experience,” or fax to 781-239-5069.

If you tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days (and have completed isolation), upload your dated positive test result by Friday, April 30 at Noon.

Schedule and complete a test on Babson’s campus on Wednesday, May 5 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. or Thursday, May 6 before noon:

  • Schedule a test (please select “student” as affiliation).
  • Testing takes place in the Webster Center. Please use the 2nd floor entrance by the parking lot.
  • Please bring a completed Student Testing Consent Form (pdf).
  • Masks and appropriate physical distance are required on Babson’s campus, including the testing center.

In-Person Commencement Experiences

Health and Safety Protocols

  • All attendees must adhere to the the following important protocols:
  • Face masks and proper physical distance are required throughout the duration of the in-person event, including in all campus facilities, outdoor spaces and while traveling across campus.
  • Graduates may choose to remove their mask for stage photo ONLY; you will be given instructions on this as you cross the stage.
  • Graduates who are in quarantine/isolation will not be permitted to participate in any in-person events.
  • Those not feeling well or exhibiting symptoms should not attend the in-person event.
  • Attendees will immediately disclose to the College if they test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of attending commencement. The College will complete contact tracing for any positive cases within 48 hours of in-person ceremony.

Behavior Expectations

  • All graduating students are reminded of important expectations of behavior for this event, including:
  • Attendees are accountable for adhering to Babson COVID-19 policies and the COVID Specific Health and Safety Policy for Students (pdf).
  • Graduates may not join another in-person session; once registered, you must stay in your assigned session.
  • Graduates (who do not resident on campus) may only be on campus for their registered session.
  • Returning graduates may not congregate on campus beyond pre-registered events, and access to campus buildings will  be restricted.
  • Following the end of the session, residential students are expected to return to their residence halls and all others must exit campus.

If graduating seniors choose to engage in behaviors that violate Babson College’s Student Code of Ethics (pdf), particularly the COVID Specific Health and Safety Policy for Students (pdf), they can expect to be removed and trespassed from campus immediately and may face a delay in the conferral of their degree.

Guests

No guests are permitted on campus for in-person experiences. Portions of the in-person experience will be livestreamed for family and friends, and all members of the Babson community are invited to participate in our digital ceremonies.

Parking and Transportation

Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to/from campus.

Parking and drop-off (Uber, Lyft, etc.) for commuter/remote students is available in the lower Knight and lower Bryant parking lots. Residential students should plan to walk to the BECC garage.

Event Check-In and Procession Start

Check-in for all in-person Commencement experiences will take place at the BECC upper garage (residential student check-in on Friday, April 30 will take place in the lower level of BRAC). Please have your Babson OneCard or photo ID. There will be nowhere to store bags or luggage; please bring only what you plan to carry. 

You must be in full compliance with Babson testing protocols at check-in, and symptom reporting will be required. Following check-in, you will be instructed on where to line up for the procession, with appropriate physical distancing observed.

  • Residential Students: Check in on Friday, April 30, between 4–6 p.m. at the lower level of BRAC (please use Webster Lot entrance); arrive by 9 a.m. on May 1. If you completed a Babson COVID test on Thursday, April 29, you must receive your negative test result prior to checking-in. If you have not received your test result before check-in closes at 6 p.m., plan to check-in prior to your in-person Commencement session on Saturday May 1.
  • Commuter/Remote Students: Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m.
  • Procession begins 9:45 a.m.
  • Residential Students: Check in on Friday, April 30, between 4–6 p.m. at the lower level of BRAC (please use Webster Lot entrance); arrive by 2 p.m. on May 1. If you completed a Babson COVID test on Thursday, April 29, you must receive your negative test result prior to checking-in. If you have not received your test result before check-in closes at 6 p.m., plan to check-in prior to your in-person Commencement session on Saturday May 1.
  • Commuter/Remote Students: Check-in opens at 2 p.m.
  • Procession begins at 2:45 p.m.
  • Check-in opens at 12:30 p.m.
  • Procession begins at 1:45 p.m.
  • Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m.
  • Procession begins 9:45 a.m.

  • Procession begins at 2:45 p.m.

Food and Beverage

Food and beverage will not be served at any in-person Commencement events, in adherence with required health and safety measures. Campus dining and facilities will not be open on May 8.

Hotel Information

Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodations. No off campus students are permitted in Babson residence halls and the BECC will not be available for guests. Discounts for Babson graduates are available at several local hotels:

Exiting Campus

Following the in-person ceremony, photo opportunities across campus will be available for one hour. After that time, graduates are expected to return to their residence halls or exit campus.

Livestream

Portions of the in-person experience (including your walk across stage) will be livestreamed at Babson College Commencement Events for friends and family.

Post-Commencement

Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed in June to students who complete their degree requirements this spring and are May 2021 graduates. Your diploma will be withheld if you have any outstanding obligation, such as a balance due or laptop to return.

Reporting and Contact Tracing

Attendees will immediately disclose to the College if they test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of attending commencement. The College will complete contact tracing for any positive cases within 48 hours of in-person ceremony.
