Babson Graduates

Commencement 2020 and 2021

Commencement Health and Safety Protocols

Safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the Babson community remains our top priority as we plan for in-person Commencement celebration experiences.

Decisions continue to be made in consultation with state and local boards of health and with guidance from our external health consultants, EHE.

COVID-19 remains a dynamic and evolving challenge. Currently, COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise across much of the country, and the CDC is advising against travel, even for those who are vaccinated. These factors—and many others—are continually evaluated as part of our Commencement planning efforts.

Current health and safety protocols for in-person Commencement celebration experiences include the following, and additional updates will be shared in the coming weeks:

  • In-person Commencement experiences are limited to Class of 2021 and Class of 2020 graduates only. No guests will be permitted to attend in-person events.
  • Class of 2020 graduates and Class of 2021 students not currently residing on campus are responsible for arranging their own accommodations, and, for health and safety purposes, may not stay as a guest of any residential students.
  • Family and friends are encouraged to view the digital ceremonies, where every graduate will hear their name be announced and many of the traditional elements of a Commencement ceremony will be featured.
  • Class of 2021 residential students and students who are currently commuting to campus must remain in compliance with twice weekly testing and daily symptom monitoring through May 2. Students should plan to complete a Babson COVID-19 test no later than 48 hours prior to their scheduled ceremony.
  • Class of 2021 remote students who are not currently in the testing protocol will be required to show proof of a negative PCR test, completed 72 hours prior to their return to campus for events OR must complete a test on Babson’s campus 48 hours ahead of their anticipated return. Appointments will be made available through Babson’s testing program. Graduates must follow all Massachusetts testing and travel guidelines.
  • Class of 2020 graduates must be in full compliance with Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Babson College travel and testing protocols. Attendees will be required to show proof of a negative PCR test, completed 72 hours prior to their return to campus for events, OR must complete a test on Babson’s campus 48 hours ahead of their anticipated return. Appointments will be made available through Babson’s testing program.

NOTE: Testing requirements apply to all attendees, even those who have been fully vaccinated.

  • Graduating students will be required to register for all in-person Commencement experiences. Registration is open through April 15. Timely pre-registration is required to facilitate planning in accordance with group capacity requirements.
  • Class of 2020 graduates and those students studying 100% remote are invited to register for the in-person “pod” experiences only, and to return to campus on their assigned celebration day (May 1 for Class of 2021 undergraduates; May 2 for Class of 2021 graduate students; May 8 for Class of 2020).
  • Additional information about check-in and badging will be shared following event registration.
  • All graduating students attending in-person Commencement experiences are accountable for adhering to Babson COVID-19 policies and the COVID Specific Health and Safety Policy for Students (pdf).
  • In-person graduation experiences will take place outdoors.
  • Face masks—in accordance with CDC guidelines—are required in all campus facilities and shared spaces, including outdoor spaces and while traveling across campus, regardless of whether you can maintain six feet of distance.
  • Additional information about Babson’s health and safety protocols can be found on the Babson Together Campus Safety Protocols page.
  • Graduates who are in quarantine/isolation will not be allowed to participate in any in-person events.
  • Those not feeling well or exhibiting symptoms should not attend the in-person events.
  • In adherence with required health and safety protocols, food and beverage will not be served at any in-person Commencement events.
  • In-person graduation experiences will take place outdoors, under the tent, rain or shine.
  • Graduating students attending in-person Commencement experiences are accountable for adhering to Babson’s COVID-19 policies and the COVID Specific Health and Safety Policy for Students (pdf).
  • Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 students who are studying 100% remote may only be on campus for their registered session.
  • Returning students may not congregate on campus beyond pre-registered events, and access to campus buildings may be restricted.
  • Students who do not reside on campus are responsible for arranging their own off-campus accommodations and transportation.
  • Face masks are required in all campus facilities and shared spaces, including outdoor spaces and while traveling across campus, regardless of whether you can maintain six feet of distance.

If graduating seniors choose to engage in behaviors that violate Babson College’s Student Code of Ethics (pdf), particularly the COVID Specific Health and Safety Policy for Students (pdf), they can expect to be removed and trespassed from campus immediately and may face a delay in the conferral of their degree.
