Graduation Information

Babson certifies and issues degrees and certificates three times each year: May, August, and December. Information on degree and certificate requirements, graduation requirements, and Latin honors is included below.

Degree and Certificate Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS)

Students admitted as of Fall 2017 must earn a minimum of 130 credits and attain a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average on credits earned at Babson.

Students admitted as of Fall 2013 must earn a minimum of 131 credits and attain a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average on credits earned at Babson.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 45 credits in the One-Year, Two-Year, Blended Learning, Evening, and Part-Time Programs or a minimum of 46 credits in the Blended Learning Miami program. All students must attain a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson. Required credits may vary for students admitted under prior curriculum structures.

Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 30 credits and attaining a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson.

Master of Science in Finance (MSF)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 30 credits and attaining a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson.

Master of Science in Management in Advanced Entrepreneurial Leadership (MSAEL)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 30 credits and attaining a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson.

Master of Science in Management in Entrepreneurial Leadership (MSEL)

Students must complete all degree requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 30 credits and attaining a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average on all credit earned at Babson.

Certificate in Advanced Management (CAM)

Students must complete all certificate requirements, including successfully earning a minimum of 9 credits and attaining a minimum 2.80 cumulative grade point average.

For graduate students, a degree or certificate will be granted to a student in the semester in which all academic course requirements have been met and where the student is in good standing in all respects. Any course work completed after the semester in which a student earns a degree or certificate will be considered post-graduate work.

Graduation Requirements

All graduating students should:

1. Complete an Application for Degree

The Application for Degree allows you to enter your name as you want it printed on your diploma, the phonetic spelling/pronunciation of your diploma name, and your anticipated graduation/completion date. The deadline to complete the Application for Degree is listed below. If the Application for Degree is not submitted by the appropriate deadline, the name on your diploma will be printed exactly as it appears on your academic record. Once you submit your Application for Degree, you should expect to see “Your information has been saved.” You will not receive a confirmation email. 2. Verify/update your current home mailing address in Workday.

Please make sure you specifically update or verify your “Home Mailing” address. Home Mailing Address Update Instructions.

3. Complete degree or certificate requirements.

All of your degree or certificate requirements must be completed and graded by the deadline noted below.

If you have any outstanding obligations due to the College, such as a balance due, you will not receive your diploma until these obligations are cleared.

Commencement Ceremony

The 2022 Commencement ceremony will celebrate students who graduate from a degree program in May 2022, December 2021, or August 2021 as well as students expected to complete their degree requirements in August 2022* (*see Walker Policy below).

To participate in the Commencement ceremony, you must complete the steps listed in the "Graduation Requirements" section above and you must complete the Commencement Clearance Process (CCP). The CCP is an application site that allows you to view and complete the requirements necessary to participate in the Commencement ceremony. This site will open approximately two weeks before Commencement. Requirements include fulfilling financial obligations, completing college surveys, and returning laptops (undergraduates only). Please visit the Commencement page for more information about the CCP. Students who graduated last August will not have access to the CCP and should contact the Events Management Office to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

Certificate students are not eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

“Walker” Policy

Undergraduate Walker Policy

If you are a probable August graduate, you may participate in the preceding May Commencement ceremony as a walker. At the Commencement ceremony, you will wear the full academic regalia, sit with all graduates, have your name announced, and have your name printed in the Commencement program with the appropriate notations (honors will not be listed). To participate, you must:

  1. Register for and plan to complete all remaining degree requirements over the summer sessions. Students must be within 20 credits of the completion of their degree in order to participate in commencement. Students must register for their remaining degree requirements by the deadline listed on the 2020 Undergraduate Commencement Walker Form (pdf).
  2. Be academically eligible, based on current cumulative grade point average, and eligible in all other respects for graduation.
  3. Complete an Application for Degree.  If this direct link doesn't work, please see the "Application for Degree" section on the Registrar's Office Student Portal page.
  4. Complete an Undergraduate Commencement Walker Form with a staff member of the Student Advising and Success office and return it by the deadline listed on the form.
  5. Complete the Commencement Clearance Process (CCP). You will not have access to the CCP until we receive a completed Commencement Walker Form. The CCP is an application site that allows you to view and complete the requirements necessary to participate in the Commencement ceremony. This site open approximately two weeks before Commencement.
  6. Update or verify your current mailing address on file on the Student Hub. Please do not enter a Babson College address.

Graduate Walker Policy

You may be eligible to participate in the May Commencement ceremony as a "walker" if you will complete your degree requirements during the next summer semester.  At the Commencement ceremony, you will wear the full academic regalia, sit with all graduates, have your name announced, and have your name printed in the Commencement program with the appropriate notations (honors will not be listed).

To be eligible to participate as a Commencement ceremony walker, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Currently enrolled in a Babson degree program.
  2. Registered for your summer courses.
  3. On track to complete your degree requirements during the next summer semester and graduate in August. Only coursework that can be completed and graded by August 31 can be considered.
  4. Maintain a minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA and be eligible in all other respects for graduation.
  5. Complete an Application for Degree. The App for Degree link is located under the Academic section of the Hub Links page on the Babson Hub. Make sure you select August from the Anticipated Graduation Date field. Please note—the May App for Degree deadline of March 31 applies to walkers. If the Application for Degree is not completed by this deadline, the name printed in the Commencement program and the name read at the Commencement ceremony will be the name that appears on your academic record. Once you submit your App for Degree, you should expect to see “Your information has been saved.” You will not receive a confirmation email.
  6. Complete and return a Graduate Commencement Walker Form by the deadline listed on the form.
  7. Complete the Commencement Clearance Process (CCP). You will not have access to the CCP until we receive a completed Commencement Walker Form. The CCP is an application site that allows you to view and complete the requirements necessary to participate in the Commencement ceremony. This site open approximately two weeks before Commencement.

Certificate students are not eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

Latin Honors

Undergraduate Latin Honors

Undergraduate Latin honors are awarded upon graduation and based on the student’s cumulative grade point average (GPA). The current undergraduate honors ranges are:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.75 to 4.00
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.50 to 3.74
  • Cum Laude: 3.30 to 3.49

Graduate Latin Honors

Graduate Latin honors are awarded upon graduation and based on the student's cumulative grade point average (GPA). The current graduate honors ranges are:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.80 to 4.00
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.70 to 3.79
  • Cum Laude: 3.60 to 3.69
