Social Media Guidelines

Babson’s social media presence reflects our brand personality.

Action-oriented, innovative, resourceful, collaborative, real-world, agile, and bold. As a reflection of Babson College, all social media channels must follow photo, color, editorial, and logo guides found within the full Babson brand guidelines. This will ensure consistency with other marketing material and will extend and reinforce the Babson brand.

This guide is a summary of best practices and brand applications in common social media platforms.

Social media often becomes a battleground during election periods. To ensure our community’s values are upheld online, the following guidelines apply to all accounts representing Babson or its programs:

  • Babson will not comment on election-related posts.
  • Babson will not respond to comments related to the election.
  • Babson will not delete comments based on differing opinions.
  • Comments or posts will only be removed if they contain safety threats or inappropriate language.
  • Decisions regarding content removal will be made by the relevant college leadership, in consultation with College Marketing and Public Safety, as appropriate.

In alignment with Babson’s values, we encourage students, faculty, and staff to consider the following when engaging online:

  • Be Respectful: Engage thoughtfully, maintaining respect for others, even in disagreement.
  • Avoid Personal Attacks: Focus on discussing ideas, not individuals. Harassment, discrimination or threats of violence will not be tolerated.
  • Think Before Posting: Consider how your words reflect your personal and professional reputation and Babson’s values.
  • Foster Inclusivity: Promote a space where diverse viewpoints are welcome and respected.
  • Uphold College Standards: Ensure any reference to Babson reflects the institution's values and standards.

Creating an account?

All new Babson-branded social media account requests must be reviewed and approved by College Marketing prior to account creation. Requestors will be expected to provide a content strategy that showcases the types of messages you are looking to post and the audiences you intend to engage. For reference, access examples of posts on existing Babson accounts by visiting Advancement's social media page.

MANAGING YOUR ACCOUNT:

MONITOR & ENGAGE
Log in to your accounts every day to monitor what is being said about and to you, and respond/engage where appropriate. This can include simply ‘liking’ relevant or tagged posts, commenting positively and continuing the conversation, or jumping in to help answer questions or point people in the right direction. Regularly utilize post and account metrics to make data-informed decisions.

EVERYTHING POSTED IS PUBLIC
Assume that everything you are posting is public, is available to the public forever, and can spread further than you may intend.

YOUR OPINIONS ARE YOURS
On Babson pages, post content that reflect the College’s brand and messaging.

BE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT PERSONAL LIFE AND BUSINESS LIFE
Be careful about mixing personal views and activities with Babson-branded pages.

BE CAREFUL AND ACCURATE
Check your facts, research references in advance, and review spelling and grammar before posting.

PROTECT YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION
Be careful about disclosing personal information that is not relevant to the branded page.

PROTECT YOUR PASSWORDS
Only allow those who are posting on the page access to the pass- word. You must share your passwords and account access with the College Marketing team.

POSTS & CONTENT:

Choose images and content that appeal to your viewer. Always ask: “Would they want to see this?” “Is this useful to them?” Be regular and consistent in your posts, while being mindful to not overwhelm your audience. When sharing a link, ensure a photo appears. You may need to add a photo on the backend of the page you are sharing in order to ensure it appears.

For questions, please email Bryan Lipiner.

STEPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL POST:

MONITOR
The work isn’t over once your post is published. Actively monitor the post’s performance, respond to and engage with comments, and track its success.

TEXT
Include a clear, short caption. Add a call to action or link in the caption when appropriate and possible. Use a live URL (one that users can click).

IMAGE
Consider the use of high-quality, attractive, and relevant images to enhance the performance of posts. Use correct image dimensions to avoid distortion or cropping.

Do not distort or stretch photos to fit. If a URL is included in the image, be sure to also include it in the text caption so that it is clickable.

CAPTIONS
When uploading a video natively to Instagram, please add captions. This ensures that the video is accessible to hearing-impaired viewers, and that those watching without sound can still understand what is happening in the video.

HASHTAGS
Consider using #Babson, #BabsonCollege, #GoBabo, #Entrepreneurship, #EntrepreneurialLeadership or other relevant hashtags to extend your reach.

TIMING
Consider your audience’s behavior, as well as what’s happening in your audience’s community. Think about their typical weeks and daily patterns to determine when is your best time to post content. After you’ve posted a few times, analyze which posts did better, and determine if the engagement was due to the timing. Also consider not posting during times of crisis or newsworthy events.

PROOFREAD
Double-check posts, and run spellcheck, before publishing, and follow our editorial guidelines for all posts.

OBSERVE
Watch your post for a few days after you’ve shared it. Observe engagement and respond to questions.

Babson College Social Media Guidelines: 2024 Election

As a global institution, Babson appreciates that diverse perspectives enrich the learning environment, fostering stronger critical thinking, empathy, and understanding. Freedom of speech, thought, and expression is essential to fostering a campus culture where the open and respectful exchange of ideas can thrive. Meaningful discussion is central to problem-solving and deeper understanding, and we expect all conversations—whether in person or online—to remain civil, even when opinions differ.

Politics and world events often heighten the intensity of discourse. This election season, we encourage open dialogue and reiterate our expectation that all conversations remain civil and respectful. The safety and well-being of all members of our community remain our highest priority.
