CPR and First-Aid Classes

Babson Public Safety offers CPR and First-Aid training through the American Heart Association (AHA). We can train a group of five or more to meet job or education requirements, or just to be better prepared for potential medical emergencies while with family or in the greater community. The following is a list of the classes we offer:

Heartsaver® CPR AED

Heartsaver® CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led, four-hour course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, Infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven, practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students' learning of skills. ($20 administration fee per student)

Heartsaver® First Aid

Heartsaver® First Aid is a video-based, instructor-led, four-hour course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a medical emergency until a higher level of medical care arrives. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven, practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills. ($20 administration fee per student)

The Basic Life Support (BLS)

The Basic Life Support (BLS) course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. Students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam. (This is an advanced level course and not recommended for nonmedical professionals.)

Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens

Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens is a classroom-based course that teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet OSHA requirements for blood-borne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction. (This class is restricted to Babson College employees only, and to be requested by a supervisor of employee(s) in need of the class.)

Cost Explanation

Babson Public Safety has a $20 administration fee for the Heartsaver® CPR AED and Heartsaver® First-Aid classes. This fee is due to the high cost of the American Heart Association (AHA) course completion cards. The administration fee for these classes is only to pay for the course completion card. Public Safety is committed to offering high-quality, cost-effective AHA courses to the Babson and Olin communities. This is why we have never charged the considerably higher rates found elsewhere. Furthermore, the instructors integrate Public Safety’s unique knowledge of the Babson and Olin campuses, along with the larger community, to provide additional informative information about campus resources related to medical emergencies that another provider would not know.
