Where is SHS (Student Health Services) located and how can I contact the office?

We are across the street from Trim, in Hollister Hall rm. 130! Our phone number is 781-239-6363, and our email is healthservices@babson.edu.

How can I schedule an appointment? 

There are several ways to do schedule with us! The easiest way would be to call the front office at 781-239-6363 and schedule an appointment with someone over the phone. You can also schedule an appointment in-person by speaking with someone at the front desk. Online scheduling is only allowed for Self Directed STI appointments. 

When is SHS open?

SHS is open Monday through Friday during both the fall and spring semesters, as well as the winter and summer breaks. During the fall and spring semesters, our hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM-6:30 PM, and Fridays, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. During the winter, spring, and summer breaks, our hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. Any office closings will be posted in advance to the SHS website, here

Are there Walk-In appointments available?

SHS does not offer Walk-In appointments, and appointments need to be scheduled in advance. Our staff is more than happy to work out a time that fits best with your schedule! 

What if I am going to be late or have to cancel an appointment? 

Any student who is not able to check-in for their appointment within 10 minutes of the start time may need to reschedule their appointment. If you know you will be more than 10 minutes late, or will not be able come in at all, we kindly ask that you let us know in advance. Advanced notice will help us optimize the amount of students we can see in a day.

What is included in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)? 

The most recent Summary of Benefits and Coverage provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will be posted here. Please check back to this link during the start of each academic year to see any changes that might have been made to your coverage and benefits. The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is managed by University Health Plans. For more information on them, please check out their website, here.

How can I access my insurance information/card?

Please follow the steps listed in this guidefor information including your insurance ID number and how to receive a digital copy of your insurance card.  

How can I waive the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)?

To waive the student health insurance plan, first log onto your Workday account. From there, select the “Finances” icon, then “Enroll/Waive Health Insurance” and follow the prompts from there. To check the status of your waiver, contact Student Financial Services, by email at sfs@babson.edu, or phone at 781-239-4219.

Do I still need to upload my Insurance Card to the Online Student Health Portal if I waived the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)? 

Yes, Student Health Services in not involved in the waiver process. As well, if you have already uploaded your health insurance card into the Online Student Health Portal, you still need to submit a waiver on Workday.

Where can I find a claim form for the Student Health Insurance Plan?

Yes this form (BCBSMA Subscriber Claim Form) for claims for services performed in the United Sates. For services rendered internationally, use this form (International Claim Form).

Does the Student Health Insurance plan (SHIP) cover dental?

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) only covers dental until the end of the month that the student turns 19. After that, the plan no longer covers dental. If you would like to continue to receive dental coverage, there are dental insurance plans students can choose to opt-into. For more information on that, please click this link, here

Should I have a Primary Care Provider?

Ideally yes, all students should have a Primary Care Provider, often referred to as a PCP. However, we understand that this can be difficult for students who do not already have one, or have one but not locally. We are more than happy to assist in this search and provide services such as bridging prescriptions. Can SHS prescribe medication? 

SHS can prescribe medication for common and acute medical conditions, and medication for reproductive health. If you would like more in-depth information on what can be prescribed, or if there is a certain medication you have questions about, please give us a call at 781-239-6363 to speak with one of our staff members.

Is there a pharmacy on campus? 

No there is not a pharmacy on campus. However, if a student is prescribed medication through SHS, they can choose to have that medication filled through Keyes Drug, and have it delivered to our office for pick up. 

Can my parents/guardians/Babson view my health information 

No. The only people who will have access to your health information and records will be yourself and SHS staff members. We are unable to share the contents of your health records without your explicit written permission. Please keep your log in and password secure.

Can I receive a “doctor’s note” from SHS for a missed class? 

SHS does not provide “doctor’s notes” or any similar documents to excuse a student for a missed class. If you are unable to attend an exam due to an illness or injury, fill out the exam excuse form (unless hospitalized), and schedule an appointment with SHS or another licensed medical office as soon as possible to make sure it is submitted in a timely manner. Please note, this is for scheduled exams only, and cannot be applied to the following: take home exams, presentations, projects, papers, quizzes or regular class meetings. Can SHS assist with an accommodation request? 

SHS recommends direct engagement with the Department of Accessibility Services for any accommodations request for academics, housing, and dining. Department of Accessibility Services is located in Hollister Hall, Suite 220, and can be reached via email at accessiblity@babson.edu, or by phone at 781-239-4075. 

Please note that SHS does not provide medical documentation to support requests. 

Do I have to pay a fee or charge to be seen at SHS?

There is no co-pay or “office fee” to be seen at SHS. However, there are some items that do need to be paid for at time of service. If you are planning to receive a vaccine at SHS and you are not enrolled in the student health insurance plan, you will need to pay for the vaccine during your visit. Payments are also required for rentals for crutches and purchases of emergency contraception (Plan B).  SHS contracts with Quest Diagnostics. Please contact your insurance provider to find out if Quest Diagnostics is accepted under your plan. Let us know prior to your appointment if it is not.
